Commissions
Understanding commissions is essential for anyone involved in the sale of handcrafted items, especially in the world of unique art pieces like stained glass. Commissions allow me to tailor to the specific desires of my customers.
When considering a commission, it is important to communicate clearly about your vision. This includes discussing the size, colours, and themes you would like to see in your custom piece. A detailed descriptions, sketch or photograph all help to better understand your expectations.
Typically, the commission process begins with an initial consultation. During this meeting, I will gather all necessary information and may provide sketches or mock-ups to ensure alignment with your vision. Once agreed on the design, a deposit is required to secure the commission. This deposit often covers the cost of materials.
Depending on the complexity of the piece, it can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to complete. Once completed, I will contact you for final approval. Some customers like to see the different stages of my work and on request I can email photographs and short videos of your commission being made. The remaining balance will be invoiced before the piece is delivered or payment on collection if you prefer. I do offer free delivery within the Newcastle upon Tyne area.
Commissions have often been inspired by another piece of my stained glass and the customer requesting some variation to meet their vision. I also take smaller commissions, dogs for example are always popular.
